Manufacturer Part No: NSN-8030-01-356-6854
NSN: 8030-01-356-6854 - RDP is an iron phosphating compound, not a rust coverter, essential for use in the manufacturing and repair of watercraft and water-custom equipement to remove and prevent rusting. When applied to iron and steel, RDP will react to rust to deoxidize the rust forming a secondary compley of iron phosphate. The iron phosphate formed will be a microcrystalline coaing and will appear as a chalky-white finish that is insoluble. It can be reapplied to remove flashback rust as often as desired. RDP is a recognized form of surface preparation prior to painting by the Steel Structures Painting Council. It is unique - while chemically removing rust, phosphating of metal simultaneously occurs. The insoluble phosphate coating thus produced consists of nonconductive layers of crystal that insulate the microanode and microcathode centers caused by stress or imperfections in the metal surface, greatly reducing the severity of electrochemical corrosion. A nonconductive resin binder forms secondarily to the initial deoxidizing phosphating reaction completing the coating by filling the voids between the crystals totally insulating the metal. Can be sprayed, rolled or brushed. Biodegradable, water based and non-flammable. One gallon covers 1000 square feet. Can replace sandblasting as a rust removal method. Latexes and alkyds can be applied over RDP. Treats rough or pitted steel inside ships. Enamels and epoxies can be applied over RDP. Heat, weather and chemical resistant. Presents no weld through problems. Does not require heating. Does not attack gaskets, seals or wood. No rinsing required. Packaging: 55 gallon drums.
